Summer Reviews

I've been doing a bit of reading lately.

I read two books in the past week.

Running With Scissors AND The Art of Racing in the Rain

Running With Scissors...

Strange, odd, bizarre, borderline offensive. Still not certain how I feel about this book at all. In fact, I'm even certain why I read it. I guess curiosity got the best of me. I can't even truly recommend it because I'm not sure even I should have read it. But, I can tell you that I was perplexed enough by this insanity that I am actually reading the sequel, DRY. Sometimes I don't even understand myself. There is a movie connected to this book, a pattern for me lately, but I'm not sure if I will watch it or not.

If you've read this book, seen the movie, or know anything about either or the author, let me know. I'm curious to hear what others know and think.

The Art of Racing in the Rain

A GREAT book. A book I would recommend to anyone and everyone who loves animals. The entire book is told from the perspective of a dog. It sounds like an odd concept, but honestly it works. It not only works, it's spectacular. I would love
to see them make this book into a movie, but only if they could do it justice.

From the first page I was grabbed and struggled to put the book down and yet I didn't want the story to end.

I will never look at my pets the same.

Have you read this book? Did you love it as much as I did? Tell me all about it please.

I also watched 2 movies.
The first is Step Brothers...Okay, it was funny (at times) it had a bit of a story too.  But, overall I thought it was just plain nonsense.  Too much nasty silly bathroom (more like porn) humor.  Most of it wasn't necessary.  Definitely NOT a movie I would have pleased to have spend big bucks on at the theatre.  I'd pass this one up.

The second movie I watched was Boy In The Striped Pajamas.  Okay, so I read the book, I loved the book.  The movie?  It was good.  Not great, definitely not as great as I was hoping for.  It was lacking.  I didn't feel as though Bruno's dilemmas were adequately expressed.  The ending was different than the book - this I didn't like either.  But, if you didn't read the book the movie would be great I'm sure.  Of course, if you've read the book, don't skip the movie, but be cautioned it's different.  I'd also love to know how you felt about the book vs. the movie.

I love reading book and movie reviews. I haven't read either of those books but I have seen both of those movies. Step Brothers....so embarrassed that I paid to see it. :) The Boy in the Striped PJs....good but so sad. I have never read the book.
