Here at my house we've got some crazy exciting things happening.
Where do I begin?
Okay, let's start with the oldest child and work our way down by age.
The eldest son is not failing any of his classes and it's mid-term. Woo-Hoo! Okay, he is very anti-establishment and not a good cookie cutter kid for High School. He refuses to put forth much effort and therefore generally doesn't try at all and consequently his grades show it and he squeaks by. Today he and I went to check out his school of choice for next year, The Art Institutewhere he plans to study graphic arts and game design. He is an amazing artist and a genius on a computer so this is right up his alley. Go Booger (yes, that's his nick-name). He also registered to vote this week. He will be turning 18 on the 19th of October, so this will be his first election. He was so proud when he came home from school with his sticker on his shirt. Now, if you knew my kiddo you would be shocked and amazed that he wore a sticker that wasn't intended to offend anyone. LOL. This is a kid who shaved his head so he could have a mohawk just because he wanted to see what kind of controversy it would cause. He's not a bad kid, but definitely unique. So, he'll be Rockin' the Vote this November!! Another Woo-Hoo!!!
Now, for my daughter (the middle child) who is a freshman this year. She makes her mama proud. She made the 'Starlites' which is the fancy "team name" for the flags performing group. We just found out that her team, along with the school marching band, will be going to Washington D.C. to perform at the inauguration. Now, I don't care how much money this costs, this is a chance of a lifetime and my princess is going to be there. LOL. I'm so excited for her! She also has all A's (less one for World History) in her classes and has joined Cooking Club and Freshman Club and Gymnastics. She is loving high school.
Yesterday, my wee one, a.k.a. Mr. Big, was my breakfast date at his school for Mommies and Muffins. It was so cute (and crowded) as there were about 300 + of us in the gym eating our muffins and having our coffee/milk/juice this morning, but it was nice and quite special. My heart ached for all the children whose mommy couldn't come though. After that was finished, there was a school wide gathering at the flagpole.
Each child in the school made a pinwheel during this past week and decorated it with words that symbolize peace for them. We had a special visitor from the USMC who just returned to our area last week after his tour of duty in Iraq. He happens to be the uncle of one of the kindergartners and he came to raise our flag, lead us in the pledge and receive our appreciation for defending our freedom. The children said the pledge, sang a song and then went to the front of the school, near the main road and each child put their pinwheel in the ground where it stood all day to promote peace. The children spent a great deal of time this past week learning about peace, not only in our country but in our hearts, with the people in school and on the playground, etc. I think it is quite meaningful and I love having talks with Big about how he feels about these things. He also seems to have become so grown up all of a sudden. Don't get me wrong, he is still my baby boog-a-boo, but he is such a little man. Of course, when he overheard us talking about money for some new clothes, he ran down the hall and came back waving his Lego magazine (more like a catalog) announcing that he doesn't need any clothes, but he does NEED the Lego Star Wars Death Star ($399). Sorry kid, ya gotta get clothes. (Death Star for Christmas?)
Other news? We've got ants. It's disgusting and I'm freaking out. I don't do bugs and I hate ants for sure (they seem dirty to me). But ever since those horrible rains last weekend, they've come to visit. So, we'll be spraying and scrubbing and killing and doing whatever is necessary to get them gone this weekend. YUCK!
Projects? Well, I am still working on the kitchen cabinets. I'm hoping for a humidity free weekend so I can make some progress on them. I am stitching a couple freebie charts from Tanya (The Sampler Girl). The one I hope to finish this weekend is for the Presidential Candidates. I'm going to stitch the two charts together to form a hanging pillow. One side will have Obama/Biden and the other will have McCain/Palin. It's such a historic race that I felt that I had to stitch it. She has also come out with a couple of very cute Halloween freebies that I've got on my table that I want to stitch right away. I'm still working on the bedroom and trying to pick colors and paints and a general style for the house. It's frustrating for me for some reason. I feel pulled in too many directions. I hope to have some ideas soon as this is making me insane.
This past week has been super busy. I went in for a mammogram, a sonogram, a biopsy, and blood work. Up and coming I have a sleep study, a complete physical, as well as a few other appointments. I got very brave and spontaneously chose a new gal to cut my hair (I'm tired of being charged $100 for a haircut) and I absolutely LOVE this new gal. She's funny and talkative and she cut and styled my hair perfectly and for only $40 (which includes a 20% tip). Another Woo-Hoo! I joined Weight Watchers this week, I went to Pottery Barn, I volunteered for three things at Big's school, and I got all caught up on my paperwork.
It's almost 7:00 and I'm ready to relax. I hope you have enjoyed your Saturday!

Loved the picture of you both - how sweet! Moms and muffins? That is auch a neat idea. Looks like it was a whopping success.

What a wonderful family you have... each of your children unique in their own way with their own talents. I love that your eldest doesn't mind testing the boundaries of convention, reminds me a little bit of myself though I've never had a mowhawk, lol! I think creative people are often like that.
Sounds like busy times at your place, it's been lovely to read a little about it and to share what's been happening for you.
Have a great weekend, Nel
