Oh No...Whatcha gonna do???

My baby girl, my only daughter, is turning 16.

In 2 months, she will be 16 years old.

Sweet 16.

Driving a car.

To celebrate this huge event, we are having a party.

A B-I-G party.

We're talking close to 125 people.

Here.

 At. My. House.

So, I need ideas.

What would YOU do for a sweet 16 party?

She's not a fancy girl.

Casual.

Down to earth.

She's pleased to be having a simple backyard party.

But, I want her to feel special.

So, I need ideas.

Please.

You could think about an outdoor tea party...complete with pretty hats or tiaras, baskets filled with geraniums or other blooming flowers, baskets, vintage white linens on a table with wooden chairs all around, finger sandwiches and tiny birthday cupcakes, perhaps each guest could make a beaded bracelet or something special to remember the party. Outdoor could still be a little dicey in IL in April, but it could be lovely and spring-like, too.

Well, friend...that's my 10¢ worth! Can't wait to see what you decide to do!

Donna - your idea is lovely, but she'd never go for it. She is so NOT a girly girl. LOL. Plus I worry that some of our friends and her guy friends would panic. BUT, you did inspire me to think of perhaps doing a wacky Alice in Wonderland idea. I'll have to run it by her. I doubt she'll go for it though. LOL. She is a girl who hates pink, anything with flowers or anything girlie. LOL (she comes by it honestly)

I think an outdoor anything as long as the weather is nice would be great in 2 months...I saw some wonderful outdoor lights at Target that would be so fun for an outdoor gathering...they had decorative and simple ones and ideas...I would just think of her favorite thing and use that as inspiration...or fav couple of things, fav color, etc.

How about a backyard BBQ? Of course with a cake and the trimmings. But also badminton or softball. Just jeans and fun for her and her friends.

A FUN party will be the winner for this age-group. Croquet, badminton, volleyball, lots of teenager food (pizza, wings, fries, cookies), good music. Save your money on decorations and hire a good band. They'll love it, which will ensure that SHE will love it.

Oh, and the perfect gift. Hello, the car?!
