Staying On Track...

It's Monday, January 5th, 2009.  The holidays are behind us, the New Year Celebrations have come and gone and now it's time to focus on those goals we have set for ourselves.  2009 can
be THE year that all of those "things" that you've put off for so long actually get accomplished.
I don't know about you, but I want to feel amazing this time next year.  I want to know that I
took time each and every day, worked diligently, and all of my hard work has paid off.  I want to know that my cholesterol is down and the numbers are worth boasting about.  I sincerely want my blood pressure to be where it should be.  I want to run up and down the stairs with a smile on my face.  I want to look at myself in the mirror in my dream jeans and fitted white t-shirt and know that I look pretty stinkin' grand.  I want my skin to reflect that healthy glow that is bursting from my inside.  I want to be less stressed, more organized, and leading a simpler, happier life.

That being said, perhaps my advice for day #1 will inspire you to make this the year of the
 "I Can and I Will".

Day One (Monday)

Scale Back...
Caffeine and sugar send your energy levels on a roller coaster ride so ease up on your intake.  A cup of tea a day is fine, but if you drink more caffeine than that, cut your intake by a third.  Drink six to eight glasses of room-temperature water over the course of the day, if the taste turns you off, squeeze in some lemon or lime or add a few slices of cucumber.  Ease up on baked goods, sugary cereals, and sweets, and abstain from alcohol.

Get Organized...
Stock up on the supplies you'll need to cleanse your body.  Enlist the support of family and friends, tell them you'll be eating differently and modifying your activities.  Even better start cooking healthier foods for your family and friends, shop wiser and let them see the change come from within you that will cause them to want to attain what you have.

Reflect...
Carve out 20 minutes today to write honestly about your diet.  Without judging yourself, answer the following questions:  What are the healthiest and least healthiest aspects about your diet and lifestyle?  Do you have any particular weaknesses?  What, if anything, do you wish to change about your choices?

Believe in You!

Caffeine is my problem, but I did change to diet over a year ago. And I quit smoking August 8, 2006. I hate water so in order to drink it I had to lace it with Crystal Lights, 5 calorie lemonade packs. They are fantastic!!! I'm not much of a junk food junkie except for the occasional donut, cookie, cake, brownie...you know...those guilty pleasures, but then I don't eat those things every day. Everything in moderation, I think. We eat a lot of fish so that helps with weight loss too, and it's healthy. :o)

I know you're going to do well, Suzann!

Good ideas! It's easier to stay away from the baked goods now that the holidays are over (well except for the coffee cake I baked yesterday)! I'm back on track with drinker water which is so much easier to do in the summer when I'm hot and thirsty - but I'm making myself!

Great post Suzann! I am with you all of the way. It's funny, but I too visualize the white T and jeans on me when I am trying to lose weight and firm up...

I need to get up from blogging more often! Even though I'll be a much sadder person if I do :(
I like the jeans and white t-shirt though, so I'll do it! I will!

I have found that drinking two or three cups throughout the day does seem to calm me down. Then, I read that there are ingredients in tea that keep you alert, while at the same time, prevent your heart rate from speeding up; the ingredients in tea actually do relax you! So, for me, more tea, maybe more decaf tea, is in order.

You sound as if you are definitely on the right track for a wonderful year. And I can already see you looking at yourself at this time next year, feeling quite proud of all that you accomplished.
Happy New Year!
