I have Ischemic Colitis, which does not respond to medications, but on occasion can be quite painful and can do some rather crazy things to my life. This time was especially bad, but going on a clear liquid diet and moving slowly to a full liquid diet has been the key to a speedy recovery.
Okay, now to more fun things.
We are finally working on our kitchen (the crowds cheer) and things are moving along nicely.
Now I have a dilemma.
I absolutely love white cabinets and white subway tile. LOVE it!

But, then I saw this photo and thought WOW. Look at white cabinets with slate tiles.
It really does something completely different in the room.

So...
I am asking for opinions.
What do you like? Why?

Glad you are feeling better Suzann, it must be difficult. Prayers always with you.
As for the tile, I really do like them both. Are your countertops dark like the pics? If it was for me and knowing my own disdain for housework, I'd pick the slate tile backsplash. LOL Grease is not a friend to white tiles Plus I really like the rusticness of the slate & I would pair it up with the range hood of the white subway tile pic. Happy renovating!
They both are gorgeous. But I think I agree with commenter #2 I think that white is easily integrated in most any look in case your taste changes.
Feel better soon...I know that colitis of any kind (from my patients I have seen) can be burden.
I think both are pretty but I vote for the white ones.
I am sorry you haven't been well please take care of yourself!

So glad you're on the mend! I've missed you this week!
As I have slate in my kitchen, you probably know what my opinion is. It's a breeze to keep looking clean; I shudder to think how long those white tiles would stay clean round here...
Glad you are feeling better as well~ I say #1, can't go wrong with a clean classic white look, and as for subway tile, they used to be popular and have come back so as far as them going out of style I think you are ok, if you love them then go with what you love!
Glad to hear you're feeling better.
Now to tiles....it can all depend on how much light you have coming into your kitche. If you find you tend to turn the light on a lot, then you should go with a lighter tile because it reflects the light. Dark tiles, like slate, absorb the light and will make it feel darker than it might be in there.
I have white cabinets and white subway style tiles in my kitchen and I love it. I used to have a dark countertop but changed it to a pale, almost white, grey, so it reflected the light and made the room brighter. White won't date. The dark slate probably will.
Hope that's a help
Lesley
Such a classic look!
