Sunday Summer Review

I finally finished reading The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. This book was recommended to me by an old friend and I was especially drawn to it because of the subject. I have always been interested in the Holocaust. It is quite perplexing to me that such an ordeal could happen in our world. I still have difficulty understanding and I guess I always will.

This book was written a bit differently than other books. This was written from the perspective of an 8 year old boy. Being the mother of an 8 year old boy right now, made this have an even deeper personal connection for me. The young boy is the son of an officer who works for Hitler. His knowledge of the occurrences happening around him are quite limited, but develop throughout the book.

The book is technically a Young Adult Novel, but I was still completely interested from the first paragraph onward.

This is a book that I highly recommend. I am going to watch the movie, but with reservations of course.

I would say it is a quick read, unless life throws lemons at you while reading it, as mine did.

I began a book last night that I think I'm going to put down and pick up something a bit lighter and full of fluff for a little break.

Keeping fingers crossed that I can find more time (and energy) for reading (and stitching) in the upcoming week.

How is your summer reading coming along? Anything you'd like to recommend?

Sunday Blessings

No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

Bragging About My Little Girl...

Okay, I wasn't going to, but I have to. I'm so danged proud of her!

She's 15, an awkward age, especially for a girl.

Her baby brother is 8. He loves her. He misses hanging out with her.

She has summer school and gymnastics and cheer practice and driving school.

He has me and a few friends.

He misses his sissy.

She came home from school on Monday, took her brother to lunch and out for an ice cream cone.
Came home and played board games with him for two hours.

She made his day.

She made me proud.

I had to brag. I think she's special.

Quote for the Day

A Sad Sad Day...

I am just blown away by the losses this week. This day.

We lost Farrah Fawcett As a young girl, I wanted to be her. I wanted her hair, I wanted her body, I wanted her smile. I envied her strength as she battled cancer. I loved her movies too. I'm sad for this loss.

We lost Michael Jackson. As a young girl I remember dancing and singing to the Jackson 5. As a teen, I loved Michael Jackson and his amazing talent. What a shocking, sad situation. I'm really just in shock. Truly just devastated.

We lost Ed McMahon. An american icon.

What Would YOU Do?

If this house belonged to you?

It needs a complete overhaul.

The siding is new and so are the windows.

It needs a new driveway, new garage doors, new fencing around the deck, new stairs, new posts/pillars, and LOTS of landscaping and T.L.C.

Any ideas????

Wordless Wednesday

Looking UP (part 2)

Here's a peek at the hallway ceiling. It still needs to be painted (obviously) and the white framed part (that sticks out like a sore thumb) is our access to the attic. We chose a new light fixture which really looks amazing compared to our old one.

This is the new light fixture close up.

Looking at the hall from the main living area.  As you can tell we still don't have
any trim and all the new doors aren't on yet.

Here's that funny looking framed area I mentioned.  But, once the whole ceiling
is painted white, it won't be so obvious.

C is for CHICAGO

MY KIND OF TOWN...

I'm fortunate to live less than 30 minutes from this glorious city. I was born there and my parents lived there until 1973 when they ventured out to the northwest suburbs. I LOVE that town.
