Book Club...

This was the book that my book club just read for tonight's meeting.  Now, based on the title alone I was skeptical.  In fact, had I seen it sitting on the shelf at the book store, I would have walked right by it.  But, based on the fact that I am trying to be more social and that I love to read and discuss books, I decided what the heck.
My goodness this is a wonderful book!  It is written in the form of letters written between many different people.  To some this would prove to be irritating and a huge turn off.  For me, it doesn't bother me one bit.  I have to say that this book grabbed hold of me from the onset and never let go.  By the middle of the book I found myself lost within the characters and had to remind myself that the story wasn't true, but fictional.
The story line was wonderful, the characters were divine and full of personality, the writing was just perfect.  The only complaint I have about the entire book was that it ended and I wanted more.  For me, not so much a negative, but a positive.
The story has history, friendship, loyalty, love, and fills you with the joy of hope and wonder.  I highly recommend this book.

Next month's selection?  As many desired further discussion after reading Loving Frank, they chose T.C. Boyle's book The Women.  I did not read Loving Frank, so I think I will need to read both books for next month's discussion.  Obviously this can be done, but will I find the time?  Fingers crossed!

What about you?  Are you a reader?  Do you belong to a book club or do you enjoy discussing books?  Any book recommendations?  I'd love to hear your thoughts on some of your favorite or least favorite books.

Don't get me started... :)
I'm a bookie, I read everything from "smut" novels as my Husband calls them to very in depth political, historical non-fiction.

One of the recent books that I read and feel everyone should read was Bill O'Reilly's Bold Fresh Piece of Humanity. I laughed out loud, I cried, I loved it cover to cover - its his self written biography...nothing political, just a story of a life. Awesome. I really want to read "The Miracles of Prato: A Novel" Its about a painting Master and his Muse....interesting....
Don't belong to any book clubs, that's why I'm yammering on here :) But I do belong to www.goodreads.com LOVE IT! It's a great way to keep track of what you've read and do a little interacting with other bookies ;)

I.Love.To.Read.

Read Stephen King in the third grade. The entire Clan of the Cave Bear series in Junior High. I have so many great book memories. I love to re-read my favorites. Like Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett. Read it about 10 times, at least.

I'm reading "The Other Boleyn girl" right now. I have been dreaming about being in the English court everynight, it's so well written. Have you read that one?

Have a great week, chicka. I'll miss "talking" to you. Wish me luck.

Hi Suzann,
Currently, I'm reading THE SENATOR'S WIFE, a novel by Sue Miller and it's very good so far. I love her previous books. I tend to exhaust an author if I like her and read all her books. My favorite authors are Adriana Trigiani, Jodi Picoult (I bought her new one, HANDLE WITH CARE, at Target yesterday), Stephanie Evanovich and the list goes on. I read mostly fiction but some cozy mysteries now and again like the Agatha Raisin series- fun! One of my favorite books is FORTUNE'S ROCKS by Anita Shreve. I must be the only person who didn't get through the Guernsy book - I tried three times but just can't seem to click with it.

My bookclub read LOVING FRANK two months ago - I didn't get through it but what I read was good. I'm a picky reader - can you tell? lol Just don't have the time to devote to a book if it doesn't grab me!

I love to read. How fun that you belong to a book club. I don't feel an emotional connection to Dutch books so I read English books. That would make a book club impossible to find here I fear. I love the title of this book by the way. I will have to look up what the book is about. I just finished The Bronte Project by Jennifer Vandever and must say I could take it or leave it. I did like how the character really came out a strong woman of her own in the end though while little Miss Perfect in the book only looked like a jerk by the end to me.

Suzann, Thanks so much for sharing! I actually did look at the cover of this book, but then put it back - now after reading your post I'm going back to get it with my next Borders coupon :)

Our book club is reading The Shack - a very powerful book! I'm sure there will be interesting discussion.

My absolute fav lately is The Red Tent - a must read!

Blessings, Patti
