Tag!

Okay, because I love Heather, I'm playing her "Tag! You're it!!" Game again.

Here are my questions for you:
1. What is your favorite 80's song?

That depends.  I adored Michael Jackson in the 80's, loved dancing to Mony Mony (Billy Idol) in the clubs, but my favorite song would be Fadeaway by the BoDeans or Blister in the Sun by Violent Femmes.  - Now I've probably over-shared and you're wondering what kind of a kook I really am.

2. Favorite Casserole?

I don't like Casseroles at all.    But, I have had ONE at my girlfriend's that had hash browns and cheese and I've made it with ham once or twice.

3. Cheesecake or Pie?

Cheesecake from Cheesecake Factory always!!!  But if it must be pie, please let it be apple pie with crumb topping and warm.  Yes, it must be warm.

4. If you could do one thing over, what would it be?

Oh boy, now we're talking the "What-If's"  So, I can't be honest about this question, so I'm pleading the fifth.

5. Would you rather read the book or see the movie?

99.9% of the time I say read the book!!!

6. Are you a yeller or a talker with your children?

Usually I'm a talker.  but I do yell and I hate it.

7. Do you prefer to fly or drive?

Road trips can be amazing and fun, but flying in a plane can be rather exciting.  Given the choice?  I'd choose a road trip though.

8. Would you rather go to New York City or California?

Absolutely, positively, New York City!!

So, Now, it's your turn.  Do you wanna run with the tag???

What If...

Those are the two most annoying words of the english language when placed together.

I hate that I find myself puzzled by the what if's.

I don't want to be.

Honestly. I. Don't.

But I am.

Do you ever ponder that question?

THOSE questions?

How do you get those questions to stop filling your mind?

Q & A

I got this from Heather and since I was bored, I thought I would give it a whirl...

My assignment was to (honestly, I presume) answer the next eight questions:

1. What is your favorite board game?  Definitely Monopoly.  Followed by Yahtzee, Scrabble, and Sorry.

2. If someone gave you $100 that you had to spend on yourself, what would you do with it?  Duh!  Pottery Barn.  But maybe, just maybe, I would hit AVEDA for some goodies for me personally.

3. What city in the US would you most like to visit?  That's super tough since I haven't been anywhere.  But, I can tell you it would be on the East Coast.  Probably New York City, but if not, the it would have to be The Hamptons.  (I get money to spend on this trip, right!?)

4. What are your top three favorite TV shows?  The Big Bang Theory, Criminal Minds, and all my news programs I cannot live without.

5. Do you speak a foreign language? If so, how well?  I speak teenager pretty gosh darned good now.  (hey, if you have teens you know it's not English!)

6. What is your middle name?  Marie.  (isn't everyone's either Marie or Ann??)  But, since no one ever ever ever spells my first name correctly, at least this one is simple enough and everyone spells it right.  And since I have 2 last names, at least it's short.

7. Is there one thing you totally suck at?  Yup.  There's LOTS of things (keeping it real here) but I would have to say painting.  I am not good with those roller thingies.

8. What is the least favorite job you have ever had?  Other than the job I have now!?  (I'm just kinda kidding here)  I worked at Wendy's when I was 16 for a few months and it was dreadful.  I think fast food is a horrible job.  The grease is disgusting.  I still have nightmares.  I left there as soon as I found a better job.

And the meme ends with me, 'cause I cannot think of eight questions and I hate tagging people.  But if you, too, are in need of blog fodder, take my questions and answer them yourself.  I love to learn more about my bloggy friends (and I want to know what your middle name is!).

Garden Dedication

Yesterday my son's school had the formal "dedication" for their garden.

Yes, my son's school has a garden AND a greenhouse.

They have smart-boards AND a science lab.

And yes, he's only in elementary school.

Here is the article from today's newspaper as well as a couple of photos.

Students from Hoover Elementary School in Schaumburg held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday, but not for a new capital project on the campus.
Instead, they dedicated their new garden and greenhouse, which already has produced more than 35 pounds of vegetables for the Schaumburg Township Food Pantry.
"If you bought that many vegetables at the store," said second grader Podja Khatri of Schaumburg, "it would cost nearly $200. Wow!"
The ceremony drew the entire school to surround the garden, as well as Schaumburg Mayor Al Larson, Schaumburg Township Elementary District 54 Superintendent Ed Rafferty and District 54 Foundation board members.
"This is a historic day when we can showcase partnerships like this," said Hoover Principal Jake Chung. "It just goes to show you that when groups work together, special things can happen."
The partnerships began in April when master gardeners from Friendship Village in Schaumburg met for a planning session with Hoover students. They talked over what to plant in the garden, located just south of the school, and what amenities they'd add.
"It's much bigger than I thought it was going to be," said sixth grader Aaron Bogner of Schaumburg, who sat in on the planning meetings. "There's a lot more vegetables than I thought."
Their plan really took flight when the District 54 Foundation donated $5,000 for startup costs. Corporate partners including B&R Handyworks, Low-Bo's Handyman, Mydlach Construction and Lowe's Home Improvement contributed parts and labor.

Lowe's garden manager created a plan for the garden area, complete with vegetables, stone paths and some perennial flowers to attract pollinating insects, as well as providing starter plants.
Lowe's also contributed materials for a greenhouse which has allowed students to extend their growing season and also experiment with hydroponics, a system devised by NASA of growing vegetables without soil.
Seniors from Friendship Village returned in June to help plant the seeds and build the fence, and in just two short months, their garden produced a bumper crop.
Hoover second graders are charged with keeping a tally of all the vegetables they harvest. Their clipboard hangs on one of the fenceposts.
"We also record the numbers in our science lab," says second grader Sydney Centeno of Schaumburg. "We make graphs of all the different vegetables harvested and estimate the total weight of our donation."
Annie Finneran, one of the student tour guides, points out the lemon and orange trees growing outside the greenhouse, before she describes the rainwater collection system they have devised to collect run off rainwater.
"It allows us to reserve, conserve and reuse the rainwater," Finneran said.
Larson took a tour of the greenhouse and garden and found himself astonished at the project.
"Wow," he said. "How wonderful to see such an intergenerational display of cooperation - and generosity."

My Guilty Pleasure...

Recently I became addicted to Real Housewives of NJ.

A show I swore I would never ever watch.

But I did and now it's my guilty pleasure.

I like the gals on the show.

Well, except for Danielle, but that's a whole separate post.

I also love cooking.  Yup, I do.

So yesterday i got THIS...

Filled with some seriously delicious looking recipes.

And So I Remain Confused.

It's no secret that I'm a Christian.

It's also no secret that I have struggled over the past few years to find a church home since moving to our current home.

My husband, who wanted this move, has refused to go to church with me since we moved.

He told me to find a new church and then he'll come.

Frustrating!

I've bopped and shopped and have just felt lost.

So, my dear and wonderful friend from my old town/church invited us to go to church and come to their house and have lunch today.  So, we went.  But, there was a wee part of the day that I didn't tell hubby about.  Lunch was with my girlfriend's home-group.

What you probably don't know is that my husband doesn't like new situations or large groups of people or  to be in a setting that makes him feel out of his comfort zone.  Knowing this, I opted to not tell him because I knew he would find a reason not to go today.

So, we went.

It was awesome.  Wonderful.  The blessing I have needed and been in search of.

The trouble is that hubby thinks we should go THERE for church.  It's 28 miles away from where we live.  I don't feel like we could be a true part of church family that was so far away.  Make sense?

My daughter wants to go to a mega church where a lot of her friends go.  Me - not so much.  I'm a smaller more personal church goer.

My son, insanely shy, also wants a very very small church.

So, I sit here tonight feeling confused as to what I should do.

Should I drive that distance and only do church on Sundays?  No midweek.  No bible study.  Nothing.

I almost feel like I should start my search over again, but honestly?  I'm drained.

I'd love to hear about your thoughts.

Finding a church home is a huge deal to me - I'm hoping I'm not the only one.

In honor...

“Time is passing. Yet, for the United States of America, there will be no forgetting September the 11th. We will remember every rescuer who died in honor. We will remember every family that lives in grief. We will remember the fire and ash, the last phone calls, the funerals of the children. “

Make it a GREAT Day..

So yesterday I spent approximately 7 hours in my car.  Nope, I'm not exaggerating either.  I was really dreading the day to be honest.  Spending any length of time with my oldest child can leave me drained emotionally and mentally.  He has not made the best choices in life and he seems to enjoy the fact that he can completely frustrate me.  But, I still love him and I'm not giving up on him.  Yesterday was one of those days where I had to spend a LOT of time with him.  But yesterday he made me laugh.  Laugh a crazy - hurt your side - start to cry kind of laugh.  It was awesome.

So, my new recipe for a great day??

Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks (no fat, no whip, and with an extra shot of espresso)

Dancing.  A little bit of happy dancing, even when you don't feel like it.

And laughter.  Goodness I need to laugh more.

I need to add exercise to that mix as well and I am working on that.

Today isn't quite as busy, but the next few days will make up for that.

So, now I want to know - what's your recipe for a great day!?

P.S.  for those who want to know what my son did to make me laugh, I will tell you but it won't be quite as funny.  You kinda had to be there.  I had to take him to the courthouse (long story) and while he ran in I went behind the parking garage to sit so I could quickly drive to him when he got out.  After 20 minutes I heard a phone vibrating and when I figured out it wasn't mine but his I realized he didn't have his cell phone to call me when he was done so I should go and check on him.  I was relieved when I didn't see him outside, and figured I'd drive around the "circle" while I waited.  As I made my first lap I saw my son (6-foot tall and rail thin) in my rearview mirror running towards me.  He got into the car and was freaking out.  "I couldn't find you anywhere!"  "Where were you!?"  "I was running through the parking garage yelling for you"  and then he went inside the courthouse to tell them he couldn't find his mom and could he use their phone.  So, the fact that my almost 20-year old "tough guy" son was freaking out because he couldn't find his mommy, struck me as hysterical.  Yup, I lost it.

p.s.s.  And no, my son doesn't always frustrate me, just most of the time.  And although he can hurt me like no one else on this earth, he can also make me laugh harder than anyone else can.

p.s.s.s.  and yes, I am addicted to Starbucks.  I need help.

Wacky Wednesday

Today is better than yesterday, but I'm still feeling a bit "off".

I'm not certain as to why I'm feeling this way but it's frustrating.

Today is my day off, but I'm crazy busy - so no rest for me.

But, I'm finally getting routines in place and getting caught up after the fun and lazy summer days.

So today I'm feeling like...

Today you will find me...
Dropping off T at school,
rushing out to a customer to make a delivery,
rushing back to pick up #1 son and take him to an appointment,
and running him
to a second one (unplanned).
Making dinner, sewing on scout badges to be ready for tomorrow's big pack night,
picking up T from school, cleaning house, doing laundry, making 3 phone calls, and
picking up #1 son from work at 9:30 p.m. (30 minutes away) and taking him to his house.

Just in time to come home, fall down (hopefully sleep) so I can get up and run the race again tomorrow.

The last weekend...

The last weekend of summer ...

Saturday was lovely.  Sunshine and wonderful breezes.

Sunday started out nice, but not quite so breezy - so we had some bugs.

Sunday night I went to see these bands

And then the weather changed and although I tried to hold out, eventually being wet and icky forced me to leave and go home to dry conditions.

Today we have a parade and I need...

Bummer!!

Squeezing In The Fun

Do you ever feel like you're squeezing in ever last bit of fun?  Lately that's how I feel.

(add to that a bunch of crabby mama due to lack of sleep and you've summed up my life)

Drinking a LOT of this...

and I DO have the app for that!!

This past week was full of fun times.

Last Friday we kicked things off with High School Football.

On Saturday we had a scout bon-fire and my daughter had friends over for an impromptu bon-fire.

On Sunday we ventured out to a different mall (needed some out of the house time) where we finally purchased a new toaster.  We also visited stores we don't have at our mall, Tiffany's - Neiman Marcus - Pottery Barn - and Restoration Hardware, just to name a few.

When we got home we had a little BBQ with some of my daughter's friends.

On Monday my late nights came into play (causing lack of sleep) because I have to pick up my eldest son at work.  He works about 15 miles away and doesn't get off until 10 p.m.  I'm an 8+ hour a night sleeper and this has really been hard on me.  By Thursday I gave Oscar the Grouch (of Sesame Street) a run for his money on the grouch-meter.

This week we...

Did homework, worked on puzzles, read books, watched movies, cleaned house, played with the dogs, had elementary school curriculum night, had a few friends over, and had lots and lots of cheerleading practice.

This weekend...

Today I'm getting a much needed haircut, working at the concession stand at the football game, watching the Varsity football game, and hosting a bon-fire here tonight after the game too.

The big "fest" is here in my town this weekend which means lots of walking and friends and fun for 3 days.  Bands, food, carnival, craft fair, parade, etc.  Plus this weekend is the fest in my husband's hometown, so we may venture out there for that as well.  LOTS to do.

Squeezing in ever last bit of fun for sure.

How about you??

Football and Boy Scouts and Bonfires - OH MY!

Here we go...

Fall's in full swing around here
(but the danged weather isn't cooperating!!  Too hot)

We've got homework - and I'm so proud at the time and care my kiddos are spending doing it right this year.

We've had our first football game of the season
(and we won!!)

Yup, I'm having sooo much fun with my new camera.

Scouting and Bonfires to kick off the year.

Crazy, Busy, Fun Filled Days are upon us.

I'm trying not to stress, but to enjoy.

Some days are harder than others.
